Descent 3
I'd like to get Descent 3 going. Can someone that plays point me in the right direction for patches, maps, and explain how matches are setup? I have the CD's to install from. Thanks!

If you own a copy of the game, I *HIGHLY* recommend getting the Dateiliste installation ISO and installing from that. That will give you everything you need and more, including Vortex, D3Server3, a whole bunch of maps, and more.
Aside from that, it's just a straight install from the CD's. I recommend running in administrator AND for compatibility for Windows XP Service Pack 3. Run the launcher and ensure your video and audio settings are setup, you'll want to detect for OpenGL.
As for playing... Peer to Peer is really bad in Descent 3, you really need a 3rd person to host a client/server game and observe, or play on a dedicated server. Foil hosts the Descent Retirement Home servers and has been very responsive to a few of us with level requests.
As for active DCL players, you've got me, Lady Silver, dues, Zero, and sometimes Behemoth and Bahamut. Entropy has threatened starting playing, too. Souljah and Rethink have also played in recent weeks.

Welcome to Descent 3 PaveL 96! (or Welcome back?) I'm so happy to see another player join in the D3 fun!
Roncli is a good one to help you with the technical stuff, I just play the game.
I would love to play some 'just for fun' games with you sometime to help you get your D3 wings wet. Or of course I'm always game for a DCL match. I'm usually on mumble in the evenings various days of the week (anywhere from 9:30 pm - 1:00 am EST)
If I don't see anyone on Mumble, I use tracker addy: http://www.descentservers.net to see if anyone else is currently playing online. There are around 40 servers up constantly, just waiting to be played. Sometimes waiting in an empty server for awhile will entice others to join.
Or if no one is on you could have some fun in the Ascent anarchy server with the 4 AI {BOZ} pilots: IP# 87.106.136.253:2089 , they will keep you busy.
You are kind of a legend around here as far as D1 goes. Did you play D3 in the past as well? or are you playing it for the first time?

Me and Zero have noticed that D3 feels "choppy" if we have Mumble running while playing, your experience may vary but keep that in mind as well.

Well! I'm up and running. The game is still great even 15/16 years later. Thanks for the tip on the bot server. Great way to warm up for the "real" players that joined a few minutes in.
Thanks for the help everyone!
